I've been looking around for some nice property to either invest in or settle. I've heard good things about the area, both Rochester and Conway sound nice, but I'd like something that's maybe a little further out. Not in the country per se, maybe just a nice town. I wouldn't mind rural, but neighbors and some local life are good too.

You should look at Wakefield! It's a beautiful town, and about midway between both of those. You'll find a few ok sized grocery stores, and some nice shops that are new. It's one of those quaint towns that has grown just enough to be good living without losing the small town appeal.

I'd agree about Wakefield. The location's great. Not only is the town nice, but the view is stunning, awesome scenic views of Mt. Washington.

Thanks you two. I'm looking up more info now on it, it looks just like the sort of thing I was looking for. It also sounds like maybe they're doing a lot to try to control development?

My parents are from Wakefield. if you're looking for land to develop, it's really an amazing place. A very close-knit but welcoming community... not terribly much going on, but some very valuable areas with great views, wonderful opportunities around some of the lakes. Sometimes traffic on Route 16 can get a bit heavy on the weekends with people coming up to vacation in lake cottages. Some small restaurants, nothing too fancy, but nice. They liked Pine River Steak House. Snowmobilers tend to head up in the winter, as well.
A nice small town with plenty going on, but not too much. Really the perfect mix, whether you're looking just to invest, or looking to move in. And, yes, they do work to make sure that there's plenty of space with ordinances... nothing too restrictive, just working to keep things looking nice.
