I'm a single guy from up here in North Dakota, looking for someplace new. I got an offer for some temporary housing with a friend in Providence. I think this could really be a great chance for me, I feel cooped up here a bit... not so much closed in, just there's... not really anything around at all. So I know Providence isn't terribly large, but that doesn't bother me, it even kinda suits probably. Tell me what there is to know? my friend's told me quite a bit, but I'd like some other opinions, maybe from people in the area even.

There are plenty of very safe, wakeable areas in Providence. The east side is a mix of single family and multi unit houses with yards, as is the Armory district in the west end. Plenty of locations are very close to either. For night life and generally socializing, it has a very bostonian feel, and if you want, Boston itself is only a ride away by commuter train. Of course Providence is much much smaller, but it manages to be a great meld of that larger city atmosphere with a smaller city one, with many great things to do all within easy distance, most on foot.

Oh! just to point out, east side isn't the same as East Providence. On the east side, Wayland Square is a wonderful place, but you can find plenty of others I'm sure you'd find comfortable and love.
