Located in the southwestern segment of Morris County, Long Valley is the county's most rapidly growing and most rural municipality. Farms and new residential subdivisions dot the rolling hills and valleys of famous Schooley's Mountain.
Many picturesque hamlets found with the municipality still carry the descriptive names given them by early German settlers: Scrappy Corner, Pleasant Grove, Nestling Pines and Springtown. Today, a major portion of Washington Township's residents live in the region of Long Valley Recent residential subdivisions have meant expansion for Washington Township-Long Valley's excellent education system. Community growth has been stimulated by the proximity of large corporate facilities with the region.
West Morris Central High School made Newsweek's magazine's list of the top 1,000 high schools in the country. The nationwide schools are judged by the number of Advanced Placement and/or Baccalaureate exams taken by the students in 2004. West Morris Central began this program in 1998. West Morris was the second public high school in the state approved for the IB Program.
The municipality has many attractive recreational facilities, including Schooley's Mountain Park , a county park with boating, picnic areas, ball fields and hiking trails; Hacklebarney State Park; Mine Brook golf course and the Black, Raritan and Musconetconsg rivers for sport fishing.
